So, as I mentioned, my old pal Pauly Shore is joining us on Thursday July 9th at 6pm PST!!!
Super excited to have Pauly join us for our next Bundy Breakdown. We’ve been friends for many years…I’m thinking even before he was a guest on the show, but not exactly sure when/where we first met. Years later, he and the team at Hollywood Pictures aka Disney wanted me for the role opposite him in Encino Man. At that time in my life I hadn’t auditioned for anything in many years because I was working on MWC, and I had kind of lost that skill lol (auditioning and acting on-the-job are two entirely different beasts) and I was less than stellar during the screen test. I remember Pauly being a bit frustrated with me that I wasn’t really going for it and bringing the heat. When I really reflect on it, I think I was super young (16 or 17) and very nervous to be back in a room with studio execs. Oops. Lesson learned. The part went to the nicest guy in showbiz, Sean Austin, who I coincidentally ran into this weekend here in Buffalo for the Nickel City Con. (he’s the most normal and unaffected ex-child actor I know. And I’m very happy for his success).
We were also both close with the great and sweet-souled, Sam Kinison (who was Pauly’s babysitter back in the day.. I’ll let him talk about that, ha).
Years later we found ourselves in an acting class together with the then “it” acting coach in the city (personally I think this woman screwed me up more than she helped me).
I recently went to the Comedy Store and had the pleasure of seeing his one-man-show which is great and I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.
Anyway, really looking forward to this zoom party. As you probably already know, the episode is called “Three Job, No Income Family”, (Season 3 episode 14 if CHAT GPT is correct 😂) written by our friend Richard Gurman!
Get your homework in and watch the episode and get your questions ready! And, possibly most importantly, don’t forget to make the sound! Woosh! Season 3 Episode 14: A Three Job, No Income Family
See you on Thursday the ninth, buuuudddyys!!!!
More about Pauly
Born on February 1, 1968, Pauly Shore grew up in the middle of the Los Angeles stand-up comedy scene. His parents, Sammy Shore and Mitzi Shore, founded and later operated the famous The Comedy Store. Because of that, he spent much of his childhood around legendary comedians, giving him an early appreciation for stand-up comedy.
As a teenager, Shore began performing his own stand-up, gradually creating his laid-back California surfer persona known as “The Weasel.” His catchphrases and relaxed style caught the attention of MTV, and in 1989 he became one of the network’s most recognizable VJs. His popularity exploded as he introduced music videos and hosted specials with his unique brand of humor.
Around that same period, Shore guest-starred on Married… with Children as The Captain, the overenthusiastic Burger Trek manager who constantly irritated Al Bundy by making him say “Whoosh!” whenever he slid a burger across the counter. Although it was only a single episode, the role showcased the same energetic, quirky personality that was making him a television star.
His success on MTV soon led to starring roles in comedy films, beginning with Encino Man, followed by Son in Law, In the Army Now, Jury Duty, and Bio-Dome. During the early and mid-1990s, he became one of Hollywood’s best-known comedy actors, with his “Weasel” character becoming a defining part of pop culture.
Shore continued performing stand-up, making independent films, podcasting, and touring. He has remained closely connected to The Comedy Store, helping preserve the legacy of the club that shaped both his childhood and his career.
Looking back, his appearance on Married… with Children serves as an early example of the comedic style that soon made him a household name, while also fitting perfectly into the show’s tradition of memorable guest stars.
