Recently Norman Jablonsky and I have started rewatching all of Richard Gurman written or co-written episodes. I think we started doing this in preparation for the possibility that we may have a Zoom focused on this topic. Oh what a treat it has been. We have been watching them in order of air date. We finally made it up to “You better watch out” That scene where santa lands in the Bundy’s backyard never gets old. One of the things we have noticed is how the stories have evolved and how the characters have grown. I have to admit that watching just a few specific episodes per season has given us a different perspective on the show. You can see how the kids have grown up and how Peggy and Al have evolved. The subtle differences in how Al talks or Peggy’s hair and wardrobe choices. In the early episodes, Peggy was cooking and cleaning and worried about Kelly and Bud. Not so much in the later episodes. The Bundys even had food in the cupboards. It has been an interesting experience to view the show in this manner and I would highly recommend it to everyone.
