Most underrated joke/moment in MWC

Married with Children al and steve couch scene

We all can think of the most famous scenes from Santa crashing in the back yard to Marcy’s Aunt’s ashes. Rewatching episodes for our watch parties has given me an opportunity to watch classic lines from episodes that maybe aren’t in everyone’s top 10.

So I figured let’s start a thread of favorite lines/scenes from random episodes. So Hot off the Grill, Camping Show, etc. really aren’t episodes to reference.

I’ll start: “Now You’re Cooking with Butter” – 10th season episode with Peg’s mom being on a phone sex hotline. When Al dials the number at home and the phone rings upstairs his reaction and then crowds reaction realizing in real time what happened is to me one of the funniest moments in the show. It might actually be the longest laugh that aired (I’m sure in post production they cut down laughter).

What are yours?

Oh, that’s a really cool idea, Adam. I’m sure we’ll end up with quite a collection. I’ll have to think about this one, but I’ll definitely come back to it!

….and Marcy keeps saying “oh my God.”

Marcy: “Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God.”

This was a great one, at the 0:20 mark. Jefferson: “The Romanian coach and the Olympian gymnast?” I was in the studio audience, and during dress rehearsal, the joke didn’t land right away. It took a few seconds for the audience to “get” the joke. So, during the actual taping, Amanda let the joke settle in, for the audience to understand the reference and intent, and then commented, “We did that last week.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nhsqr2ap6UQ

That’s funny because I LOVE the Marcy/Jefferson scenes from this episode. Honestly one of my favorite scenes in the entire series. The joke your referencing is the only part of those scenes I didn’t understand lol.

One of the most underrated moments for me is in Season 6, Episode 7 (“If I Could See Me Now”).
When Al finally has his new glasses, he spends a few moments walking around the living room, looking at everything with and without them. Every time he puts the glasses back on, the expression on his face gets me. Especially when he looks at his kids… and then at Peggy’s portrait.

I also absolutely love the scene at the optometrist’s office, where Bud and Kelly help Al pick out his glasses. Absolutely hilarious.

Al: “Why oh why did I leave high school? Peggy: “You were 30, Al”. Such a great line.
