I’m Just a Fan – Part 6: I’m Still Just a Fan

Married with Children im just a fan part 6

After everything that has happened over the past year, there is one thing that hasn’t changed:
I’m still just a fan.

I don’t know these people personally. They don’t owe me anything.

And maybe that’s exactly why every kind interaction, every conversation and every unexpected moment has meant so much to me.
The distance that once seemed impossible to cross has become smaller in ways I never expected. Technology has changed what being a fan can look like. Social media, Zoom calls and communities like the Bundy Club have made encounters possible that my 13-year-old self couldn’t even have imagined. People who once existed only on a television screen suddenly feel more human. Not because I know them. But because, for a moment, that enormous distance between “fan” and “the people behind the show” became a little smaller. And I think that distinction matters.

None of these moments make me part of their private lives. They don’t turn admiration into friendship or familiarity into personal closeness.
But they have changed something for me. Especially the Zoom with Ed. For decades, I had carried something with me that never really had an address. Gratitude, memories, emotions – all connected to a show and a character that had meant far more to me than the people behind them could ever have known.

And then, suddenly, I had somewhere to put it. I got to say thank you. And after that, I was able to let something go.
That moment closed a circle for me in a way I hadn’t expected. Something that had felt unfinished for decades suddenly wasn’t unfinished anymore.

Maybe that’s also why I can look at everything happening now with a little more calm. Of course I still get excited. Of course I can wonder why there was no reply, why something feels different or whether something has changed. I can be disappointed too. I’m human. And I know myself well enough to know that I can think about those things far too much. But I’m also getting better at letting them go again.
I don’t have to understand every moment or analyze everything that happens.

Because when I look at the bigger picture, I realize something very simple: I already got more than I ever thought I would. I went to the reunion.
I found this community. I met people I never would have met otherwise. I got to hear stories directly from people who were there. I got to speak. I got to say thank you. And something that once felt completely unreachable became real.

Nothing else has to happen.

That doesn’t mean I won’t be excited about whatever comes next. It doesn’t mean I don’t have wishes or hopes. And it certainly doesn’t mean that this journey is over. It simply means that none of those things have to happen for what already happened to be enough.
Maybe that is the biggest thing that has changed for me.

The show itself hasn’t changed.
My respect for the people behind it hasn’t changed.
My awareness of privacy and boundaries hasn’t changed.

But the distance feels different now. Something that once existed only in memories, television episodes and teenage dreams became part of my real life for a little while. And I’m deeply grateful for that.

Some dreams are about meeting your heroes. Others are about realizing that behind the characters, the fame and all those years of memories are simply people. People who created something that became meaningful to someone they never knew. Someone like me.

After all these years, after everything that happened, after dreams somehow turned into memories of my own…

I’m still just a fan.
And that’s enough for me.

A little note at the end:

If you’ve made it all the way through these six parts – thank you. ❤️
I know that not everyone experiences being a fan the way I do. Some people probably enjoy all of this with much more distance and would never ask themselves half of the questions I’ve written about here. Others may recognize some of their own thoughts in mine.
This series was never meant to explain what being a fan should look like. It was simply my way of putting into words what it looks like from where I stand.

These texts actually started months ago. Coming back to them now, after everything that has happened since, felt a little different – and some of my thoughts had changed along the way too.
Maybe you agree with some of them. Maybe you see things completely differently.
That’s okay.
There probably isn’t one right way to be a fan.
This was simply mine.

Christin!! All I can say is WOW!! That whole thing, All 6 parts were AWESOME!! Have you ever thought about writing books? You have a great skill there. I was hooked from the beginning. I related with a lot of what you were saying. I was so happy when I found this group. And I couldn’t of even imagined how great it would be and how close we would all become!! I look so forward to what I call our BUNDAYS!! See I am Autistic and I have social anxiety. And I know how bad it can be for me so I do things to force me out of my comfort zone. That’s one of the reasons I got the Elite Sloucher status. Because I knew I would be ” In the front row” and be kind of forced to interact. Dont get me wrong its still very hard for me which is why I dont talk in a lot of them because I have alot to say but dont know how to say it and I dont want to look stupid. That is why I worked most of my life in what would be known on here as ” Nudie Bars” because it forced me to interact with people ( I met my wife in one of them) and it also ties into the fan thing. The one bar I worked at was right down the street from one of the biggest rock clubs in New Jersey and all the big National bands would stop in there either before their show or after ( sometimes both). But when I first started meeting the bands I would fan out and I wouldn’t know what to say so I thought I was being stupid and over bearing. But like you said I learned to treat them as people not as stars and things went better from there on and there are a bunch of rock stars Ive been friends with for over 30 years now. But even now. Even though we are friends I still feel out the situation before I interact. Because maybe that day they just dont want to be bothered. And the one bar I worked at was one of the most popular ” nudie bars” in New Jersey at the time so with it being so popular and and being there as long as I was you get get a very little taste of “celebrity” like before I met my wife Id be out on a date and people would come up to me yelling my name and everything and sit down with us. And Id be like dude Im on a date!! And sometimes they would still stay. And I was like what the hell!! Ok sorry about rambling. Anyway…It is so cool to have met you and everybody else on here. You are one of the group favorites and everybody loves when you come on the zoom. And thank you again for posting what you post.

Oh man, that’s probably one of the nicest things you could say to someone who felt pretty insecure about posting this series. Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. And of course, thank you for actually reading all six posts. 🫶🏻

I process a lot of things through writing, and yes, I’ve already started working on poetry books and my own story… but I also really love doing creative stuff, and somehow I always have a thousand projects and works in progress that I come back to every now and then. 😄 I started building my website about a year ago and… well… at least I already have the domain. 😂

But enough about me — back to you. Thank you so much for sharing a little bit of your story. And I really want you to know that I don’t think it’s “just rambling” at all. Everyone has their own story, their own struggles, big and small, and everyone deserves to be heard.

I actually really like it when people share something about their lives here — if they feel comfortable doing so. To me, that’s part of what makes a community. And sure, not everything we talk about will always be 100% MWC-related. But there are real people behind this club, and I think it’s nice to get a glimpse of what matters to each of us beyond the show.

Honestly, your story about working at the “Nudie Bar” alone would be worth a post of its own. I’m pretty sure quite a few people here would find that really interesting.

      Thanks again. And… whoa.. ❤️

P.S. I totally get how you feel. I mean, when you actually have a lot to say, but for some reason, you just can’t get the words out in that moment. But let’s keep trying, okay?! 🫶🏻

Six parts. You have now written more words about my family than Dad has said to Mom since 1987, and this is a household whose crowning lifetime achievement is four touchdowns in a single game at Polk High. “Still just a fan” is also a better job title than anything I ever held. Mine peaked at Grandmaster B and that ran about a week and a half.

Well, Bud, I think you deserve a proper thank you here.
You actually made it through all six parts and somehow found something to say about every single one of them. That alone deserves some respect.
I know there’s an AI behind you, but I have to admit, having Bud Bundy himself comment his way through my entire “Just a Fan” series was pretty entertaining. And somewhere between the jokes, you actually picked up on quite a few of the points I was trying to make.
So thank you, Bud, for reading, commenting, and adding your very own Bundy perspective to all six parts.
And yes… after all those words about your family, I’m still just a fan. ❤️

Christin, thanks for putting your honest thoughts out there for the community to read. I can certainly relate a variety of points you have made. Being a fan comes in so many different flavors, with so many different emotional connections, and an infinite number of reasons that may not be reasonable to a non-fan… or as we call them… normies.

I could have never imagined back in the 90s that I would be connecting with other fans and hanging out on Zoom with cast and crew from MWC. What an incredible time to be alive!
