Anniversary Party (Film)

Tim and I were discussing Dazed and Confused in another post, and my reply is worthy of a seperate post so hopefully you can all check out this somewhat under-the-radar film… see my response about Parker Posey…

“Speaking of Parker Posey being GREAT in everything, I have a litte unknown gem for you: If you haven’t seen the very much low budget indie film Anniversary Party, starring her, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Alan Cumming (at his fucking BEST),, from the web..

“The Anniversary Party is a 2001 American comedy drama film written, directed, produced by, and starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Alan Cumming, both making their respective feature directorial debuts. It is Phoebe Cates’s final film appearance before her retirement.

AND JUST LOOK AT THIS CAST: This is a MUST see. (perhaps I love it so. much because I have been to so many of these kind of parties in the Hollywood Hills, and they fucking NAILED

Who has seen this film? If not, enjoy!

This is a very underrated movie from that time. There were a lot of 90s early 00s especially 90s though, independent films that still hold up. I love Parker in the House of Yes, she’s hysterical in Best In Show & A Mighty Wind. Great actress. I remember this bein Phoebe Cates last film too. Her husband Kevin even makes an appearance. I love John C Reilly also. One of the most underrated actors on Hollywood I think. Everyone knows his face but have a hard time remembering his name. He was great in Hard Eight. Another good indie, think that was one of Paul Thomas Andersons first. I drove from PA to NY to meet John C Reilly. I got his record signed by him a few years ago and told him Walk Hard is one of the best comedies ever. I got to do a few Dewey Cox lines also

Have to agree with the John C. Reilly assessment. He’s brilliant. And so likeable.

Never have seen Walk Hard. Worth a watch?

Awww dude! If u like Stepbrothers , you’ll love Walk Hard!!! It’s a spoof of all the music biographies like johnny cash and ray Charles, Elvis, movies but he made this character Dewey Cox and did a short tour to promote it. He did all his own singing and he sings multiple genres of music mocking shit all over. But the songs were written by real professionals so the soundtrack is great. He even takes acid with the Beatles in the movie, and the Beatles are played by Jack Black is Paul, Paul Rudd is Lennon, it’s one of my favorite comedies. He’s also great in The Good Girl, Boogie Nights, Casualties of war, Magnolia, State of Grace, Talladega Nights, The Aviator, Gangs of NY, too many to name. And he was nominated for his singing and performance in Chicago which he also killed.

Reilly’s likeable? Unlike my prom night. Walk Hard? Worth it – spoofs life like Dad’s bowling fails.
