People assume sitcoms run like machines. Ours ran like a carnival, loud, unpredictable, and somehow always pulling off miracles.
A typical shoot week went like this: Monday was the table read and first rehearsals. Tuesday was blocking, figuring out where we stand, move, and interact. Wednesday brought full rehearsals plus rewrites. Thursday was camera rehearsals, adjustments, and new jokes added. Friday was the live audience taping, complete madness.
The energy on a Friday night was unreal. We’d do multiple takes of scenes depending on audience reaction. Some jokes hit so hard that we had to pause for minutes just to reset. Other jokes we swapped out on the spot.
Rewrites happened constantly. A joke might get changed four times in one day. Writers weren’t precious. They wanted the funniest version possible, whatever it took.
And directors had to control all of it while keeping the show on time.
Some episodes were smooth. Some were total chaos. All were unforgettable.
