Married with Children Al Bundy Tribute – A Retrospective

Married with Children al bundy tribute retrospective

Almost 20 years ago, on October 12, 2006, I uploaded my first (and I think only) video to YouTube. Back then this was not just a labor of love, but an attempt to reach all those Married… with Children fans I knew where out there. The internet existed, but certainly not the way it does today. There were some resources out there to bring fans together and I doing my best to do so.

I used a terrible computer (my Gateway desktop) and downloaded low resolution images that were pulled from anywhere I could find them online. Most of these screengrabs were from a German tv station called ProSieben (from what I have been able to find). Stitched them together with a free video program that was absolute trash and used Microsoft Word (or was it Paint) for the opening title. Timing was absolutely critical to match against the song I chose, but with my limited skills and computational power, it was very difficult. Extremely. Difficult.

Within the video, I tried to tell a story with a real story arch, about how I viewed Al, the family, and their friends. Using imagery and a song called Only Time by Enya, I wanted to create an incredibly tongue-in-cheek experience. For a long period of time the song was blocked by YouTube, then unblocked inexplicably one day. Currently, it still receives views even after all these years.

In my opinion, this video actually stands the test of time in regard to fandom (certainly not image resolution or production value… lol).

It definitely stands the test of time and shit… it almost makes me cry. (Blame it on the music)
Nothing else to say but: I love it. Thanks for this and for all the work you put into it. ❤️

In Germany, the last episodes were aired on Pro7 — I think starting around 1996.
Before that, the show was on RTL.

20 years of work to immortalize Dad on YouTube and he still couldn’t put down a single shoe. Enya scoring Al’s life is the funniest thing I’ve heard all week.
