Episode 13 is in the books, and this one was the reunion the couch had been waiting on. Traci Lords came back to Married with Children territory and sat down with her old Bud. Darren ran the room, Brian held the tech and the hats, and the members showed up ready. If you missed it live, the full replay is below.
Opening the room: Episode 13, and the legendary couch
We came back the way these nights usually do. A hello, a little chaos, and a room that already knew the bit. Somebody called it Episode 13. Official enough to feel like a season, and also season one of Bundy Club, because a lot of these faces have been here since episode one.
Kristen, usually the main woman of the evening, was on vacation somewhere in Europe. The room noticed. Darren asked for a proper intro before we just dragged her on. Then he did the MC thing. Actress, singer, cult film icon. Wanda Woodward in Crybaby. That opening of Blade. Excision. A number two dance track. Then he stopped, because the point was the seat. Let’s get her in.
The entrance got the review it deserved. What an entrance. Was that smooth? Like butter. Butter smooth.
I wanted the first words to be a thank you. Traci was highly requested. Fans kept putting her name in, and that is what made us go get her. She said it was her pleasure. Tooth or Consequences still makes her giggle. So does playing Vanessa. Anytime she sees Joe, she smiles.
TC, the dentist, and playing dumb on purpose
We checked the name, because this club cannot help itself. The dental assistant? TC. She had it. Sweet Cheeks came up for the dentist, and then the harder fact. Joe has since passed. Several years ago now. She said he was wonderful, and that she loved working with him, and with everybody. It was a fun episode. TC was a complete ditz, and she played her that way on purpose.
This is the part I love telling people about Christina, and it fit Traci the same way. You have to be very smart to play dumb that well. Darren had just been at the reunion in LA, and he remembered Christina gushing about Traci. So we asked. Did it start on the show? Are you still friends?
Traci met Christina on the show. They had seen each other around, but they did not really know each other, and she was not working opposite Kelly that week. Paths kept crossing. They became friends, lost contact across coasts, and recently reconnected. Traci called her a brilliant actress and said she has been visiting with her a lot. Christina speaks very highly of her.
Then we got TC herself. John Waters has a line Traci likes for this kind of part. You have to have taste. TC worked because she was a ball of light. She walked in happy while everything else was a mess. Ed O’Neill is brilliant in that episode because Al is so afraid of the dentist, and TC is completely oblivious. Don’t worry about the blood. It will be soaked up. Everything is wonderful.
The audition, little Bud, and the offer to come back
Did she have to audition for TC? She did. Lines of girls in the same black dress, a cold table, the usual sitcom cattle call. She said this room was warm. By the time she was done, they were already calling to tell her she had it.
The live audience was the other mountain. Terrifying. She had not been a sitcom actress. The pressure of this show, and of forgetting a line, was real. What saved it was the cast. Ed, me, Christina, Katey, the whole seasoned group. She had to work not to be overwhelmed. They were generous. She still remembers it like yesterday. And she was already a fan. She got the show. Crass in places, still funny, and close enough to home that people still gravitate to it. Here we are.
I was honest about round one. We did not have much time together. I was about twelve, still an awkward teenager, David Garrison was still on the show, and I was nervous around a guest like that. The real hang time came later.
Darren had the card. Season 4, episode 4, Tooth or Consequences, October 1, 1989, which he admitted came from his AI. The memories that stuck were Joe shaking in rehearsal until they cracked up, the coffee table stunt, and Peg and Bud turning the chair so Al has to keep watching.
The second episode was a different phone call. She did not audition. They asked her back. She said that job landed in a difficult, somber stretch, and she was careful about how she talked about it. What she did say is that the set mattered. People like Ron. Everybody pulling for each other.
Vanessa, Shoe Dick, and the fans who waited
Darren locked the second card. Al Bundy, Shoe Dick. Season 6, episode 11. November 24, 1991. Two completely different characters, which is the flex. TC, bubbly and oblivious, and then Vanessa Vanpelt. A big rock. Al suddenly thinks he is a private eye. A cleaning job, a partner, a murder, a knife, a list of suspects, Vanessa’s story, fifty thousand dollars, and Al waking up convinced the legend fits. Traci nailed both.
Then the members got the microphone. One fan was nervous in the best way. It is Traci Lords. Crybaby, the posters, cousins who were going to be jealous. Another member wanted a ranking. She put Married with Children in its own pocket both times. Blade came up, and Crybaby, which did not blow up in theaters the way she wanted and then found people anyway. More times than not, she said, the work has been amazing.
There was a hat in there too. The room decided she might be the smartest guest we have had. I told her we are only on episode 13, so she should check back. She still won the hat.
Trivia, the crown, and two weeks out
Tooth or Consequences trivia started easy, then got rude, which means the members knew it. What caption sits under Marcy’s framed office photo? I got in first, and I was right. Norman was in the mix. Mouth of the month. Sock. Kelly’s cartoon plan to dig through the earth and come out in China. Which tooth. What magazine.
By the end, Charlie and Azie still had hands up. Somebody was holding Ed O’Neill cards like baseball cards. The pups got a look. Darren has a behind the scenes cut still in editing.
The thank yous were simple. Traci was an incredible guest. Really, really good. I was a little tired and we still got through it. Darren killed it. Brian made it happen. Then the awkward ending, the unmute, the countdown. Film royalty. A couch full of peasants. Queen in the room. Hide the laundry. Traci got the crown. It fits.
The YouTube description is shorter than this post, and it is also correct. Traci Lords rocks. That is all. She is the best. Just watch.
That is Episode 13. TC and Vanessa. Joe and Ron. Christina, and a live audience that used to terrify a guest who still showed up ready. I got to sit next to someone I did not really get to know when I was twelve. The replay is here for every Tier member who wants to run it back.
If you were in the room, you know. If you missed it, hit play, grab a seat on the couch, and welcome back to Bundy Club. We will see you in two weeks.
