But Was It Really Janey?

The Wedding Show (S07E13): For years we have been led to believe that our beloved Bud lost his V-Card to Janey, his cousin Jimmy’s bride-to-be, on their wedding day. Bud had some flings over the years, but in this episode he exclaims, “I had sex, with a girl! And I did it good!”

But I would argue that it happened MUCH earlier. Let me explain…

Master the Possibilities (S02E16): In this episode Al receives a credit card in Buck’s name. He uses the credit card to make some large purchases under the notion that the company would be too embarassed for their mistake than to charge him with fraud. Two girls from school, Kristi (Christi Allen) and Paula (Caryn Wells), come over to the Bundy house to hang out with Bud after he bought them gifts using the credit card. Steve Rhoades comes over and begins questioning Bud about the all of the stuff. The girls keep motioning for Bud to get Steve to leave because they have to be home soon. Bud makes the comment to Steve, “according to dad I only need a couple of minutes.” Bud tells Steve the information he was looking for and leaves. The end of the episode ends with the purchases being repossesed. Peggy says that it was nice to be rich for awhile, but now they are poor again. She sits next to Bud and apologizes for having to give everything back. Bud smiles and says, “Not everything mom.”

If that is not convincing enough, how about…..

Kids! Waddya Gonna Do (S05E19): Our boy Bud is macking, yet again, on a girl named Crystal (Helena Apothaker). He promises to take her to a Vanilla Ice concert and Crystal tells Bud, “the closer I get to Ice, the closer you get to the heat.” Bud needs money for concert tickets, so he scores a babysitting job for Kelly and pockets the cash. Classic Bud! Kelly ends up babysitting the Hubbards… a family with seven kids. Two of the Hubbard kids are played by Matt & Samatha Leavitt (children of Ron Leavitt), and another two of the Hubbard kids are played by Cheri & Kristen Semon (children of MWC Property Master Michael Semon). At the conclusion of the episode, Bud returns home from his date & Kelly asked how it went. Bud’s response? “I got her front row, I got her backstage, I GOT her!”

I realize that Married did not keep up with continuity throughout the years, so The Wedding Show was intended to be Bud’s big moment. But for us superfans, these are the details that we pick up.

Any thoughts from David, Darren, or Richard Gurman? Maybe even Bud can tell us his secrets!

Maybe he only made it so far each time but never got to the goal until Janey. And he seemed like a bit of a bullshitter sometimes. Always finished his dinner too early and never got the dessert! lol.i thought the same thing though. Like it prob would’ve happened earlier according to the way other episodes portrayed. I always chalked it up to him BSing a lot. Good observation

I forget the episode but I think there were a couple other times in season 7 he might have first:

Something Something Spells tramp – a underrated Kelly episode IMO
Also didn’t he sleep with his teacher in season 6? I feel like that was the final scene of that episode.

Might have to hunt YT and see if there are promo clips from “The Wedding Show” – I bet the VO would say it’s his first time. For all intent purposes I feel like given the 90s, the episode etc. and the modcast, it was assumed that was his first time.

Fun fact because I’m a TV set nerd – the hallway makes its only appearance.

Second fun fact – we actually were wrong about Amber’s episode. Mahgnificant Seven was the first appearance of Bud’s bedroom. He had to share his room with Seven.

Very caffeinated this morning and just got back from seeing my friends pics from 90s Con. Met with Perfect Strangers, entire cast of Step By Step. Next year I have to go and the Bundy Couch better be there!
